Google is a day late & a dollar short with their G1 Google Phone releasing almost a year and a half after the iPhone. Other factors which will hurt the G1 penetration is the current competition of iPhone, the very entrenched Blackberry “email-centric” secure device, and a plethora of touchscreen phones coming out. With that being said, it is very slick phone.
While it has a ways to go with business application like tying it in to Microsoft Exchange Server, it does has the ability to sync to a single PC.
What I do like about the G1 Google Phone:
- It has tons of preloaded apps
- Supports Word, Excel, Acrobat
- It has a slide out tactile QWERTY keyboard (iPhone take note)
- Compass mode lets you pan 360 while you walk!
- Touchscreen & keyboard engagement
- It supports 3G (dual band UMTS); quad band GSM
- Price $179 (w/2yr T-Mobile agreement) in line w/ entry point & features
- Battery life (5 hrs talk time; 130 hrs standby)
What I don’t like:
- NO Exchange support at present time
- No Itunes encoded media support
- T-Mobile only
- They haven’t given me one to test drive
Bottom line:
Great for the prosumer, student or single business owner. Not great for corporate user or folks who needs to have real time connection with a server.
